The way these android icons are created is simple, i use a very basic vector of the symbol shape. And then import it all in Photoshop. From there the effects, gradients and shadow are managed (a blank Photoshop file is supplied here for fun). For some more hardcore icons like Tha Shag, i used Corel Painter X. While on Tha Krom and Tha Wood i used eye candy plugins for Photoshop. You can grab more advice on my XDA thread and on this RootzWiki thread.

The packs are sometimes heavy and you should make sure you have a good internet connection. The question:
what is the difference between the packs in the app and the packs on your site. For example, I want to purchase your zombie set. I would love to use the app because of convenience, but (because of the price difference.) I feel like I must be getting less. I want the full pack, is that what I receive through the app? Or what is the difference between the two?

Answer:
Icon packs in the app are full packs but because of a few copyrights issues some icons cannot be distributed there. For example, all sports team icons are not in the app. At the moment there is 852 items in the packs within the app. Icons purchase through the app cannot be sync with the website. There is a delay to get the newest styles in the app, so when a pack is first release its only available on the site until i port the updates in the app.

Icon packs on my site are full packs, at the moment there is 1096 items within packs on my site, and are delivered in a big size (200px by 200px) to be used not only on your phone but other places you can think of, like website and computer desktop. Take note that packs purchased on my site can be sync with the app at no additional cost. The icons are delivered as .png images. You need to manually put them on your phone.

Payments and delivery are automated, but sometimes Paypal fail to send a confirmation code to the website and the result is no download link is sent to you. Nothing is perfect it seems. So if that’s your situation simply send me a email and i will review the order than authorize the download manually. Im just one guy so don’t panic if i take some minutes to respond, unlike popular belief i do sleep sometimes

When its update season you will receive a notification that your icon pack was updated with more icons. Here’s what to do:
If you have purchased your pack BEFORE 22 September 2011 go through this form to request a new download link.

-simply log into your account on this site
-Then click the “your account” button on top
-on the following page you will see a “your download” button , click it.
-then simply re-download your updated package

YES Its the only way to do it when you deal with individual .png images like my icon packs you download here. The alternative is to use ADW themes but there no guarantee it will work on all your icons, some may remain un-themed, and not all my icon packs have been converted to ADW themes. You see the challenge here is to guess what apps goes with which icons… Do a fast calculation and you’ll get hundreds of thousands of possibilities… right now i prefer to invest my time in making icons, yet i remain hopeful that one day this situation will be taken care of.

This is a video of how to use the original icon pack app, its for the one free on the market… it does not apply to straight .png images… only to the pack on the market. I used to have many packs out, but now only the free original pack remains. Since my new app has rendered them obsolete.

1. Download Tha Icon as “.png” packs
2. Install Them on your SD card in a folder.
3. When prompt by your favourite ‘home replacement/etc’ app to use a custom icon, you simply navigate to that previously created folder on your SD card.
4. Pick an icon.

Please take note that at the moment Phlashcut only works with my Original icon pack app, it does not have the ability to pick image as .png on your sd card, this is a functionality we are working on.

A cheat/trick to easily change an icons set with desktop visualizer (DV):

Let’s say you have 12 favorite shortcuts you use & have DV widgets to.
Make a folder on your SD card called ‘Icons’. Make your 12 DV icons point to 12 icons named something like 01.png to 12.png.
Have subfolders in the Icon folder like /sdcard/icons/theme1. Each theme has icons called 01.png to 12.png.
When you want to change all your icons, copy the 12 icons from theme1 to the root of the /sdcard/icons drive (overwriting the 12 files that are there). Reboot phone. Now your new icons are there.
Have as many theme subfolders as you’d like

i have not tested this. Be sure of what your doing and always make a backup of your system!

The icons themselves are stored inside the individual apk files. You need to open each one, swap out the icon and reassemble it. It’s not nearly as hard as it sounds.

1. Tools you need
7zip Download the appropriate version for your PC.
The original copy of the Fresh ROM you used to flash your phone.
The icons you want to change.

- Create a working folder on your PC.
- Using 7zip, open the Fresh ROM zip file. Navigate to the system/app folder inside the ROM. Highlight ALL the .apk files, and drag them into your working folder. Close the Fresh ROM zip file.
- Decide on which icon you want to change first. I’ll use the Browser as an example.
- Use 7zip to open the Browser.apk you pulled out of the Fresh ROM. Once open, look for the res/drawable folder inside the apk.
- Inside that folder, look for an .png file named ic_launcher_browser.png . That’s the icon that the app uses.
- Have your new icon ready. It should be 48×48 and a .png file. Make sure it’s named ic_launcher_browser.png .
- Drag the NEW icon into the open 7zip window that’s showing the res/drawable folder. Choose yes if it asks you about overwriting the original file.
- Close 7zip.

The Browser app has now been changed and will show your new icon in the drawer, and on the homescreen if you paste a shortcut. Do the same for each of the apps you want to change the icon of. The icon will always be in /res/drawable, and be named ic_launcher_ **app name**.png

Once you have changed all the icons, you’ll have a set of apk files with your new icons. You can push these to the phone one by one from the terminal, or you can create your own update.zip

To push them to the phone (once again Browser.apk will be our example)
- In your Android SDK/tools folder, make a new folder called icons.
- Copy the Browser.apk file to the folder you just created.
- Open the windows command prompt, and navigate to the Android SDK/tools folder. NOT the new folder you just made.
- Enter the following commands one line at a time:

- Do the same for each of the apk files you edited, changing the name Browser.apk to the name of the file — you’re pushing to the phone.
- Reboot the phone.
- done – have fun

“Tha icon app” is fully compatible with PhlashCut, BetterCut, LauncherPro, desktop visualizer (and maybe more?).
